Job Opportunity - Business Development Manager

As a growing, award-winning energy consultancy, we are looking for a strong candidate to be the first point of contact for new clients supporting our sales efforts and lead generation activities.

The Role

Based out of our modern offices in Haydock, Merseyside this candidate will be responsible for driving the prospecting activities of the business with the aim of increasing revenue and profit margin. The role will be focused on growing new business opportunities and extending the reach of Brownlow’s energy, water and sustainability services. Duties would include identifying new sales leads, presenting Brownlow’s experienced and ethical approach and pitching its extensive portfolio of energy goods and services. The aim would be to build strong relationships with new clients to successfully convert the sales and then seamlessly bring them onboard and transfer to the Account Management team.

A hybrid role following 3 months, this role is part of a wider team with procurement, operations, market analysts, retro audit, marketing, telesales and finance working alongside to ensure the comprehensive and efficient delivery of our energy and water services. In addition to being a critical interface, a project driver, an invaluable communication channel, this role is a virtual ‘glue’, seamlessly bringing all the business elements together for the benefit of a new business customer.

The Person

You will be an energetic, confident, people person, having the ability to communicate and transfer knowledge between both internal and external contacts. You will be a business advocate, professionally and confidently championing Brownlow’s core values, sales propositions and account management capability.  Empathy is an important part of all of this in understanding the potential client’s needs and assessing the most effective way to deliver the agreed services.

With fantastic organisational skills, you will have the ability to manage many elements at the top of the sales funnel. Lead generation opportunities will come from a variety of sources including website, social media, PPC, advertising, telesales, recommendations and your own lead ideas. You must have the operational, technical and personal resilience to manage all of these, maintain communication with both external and internal parties. You would also need to measure and report on your performance to support the wider lead generation efforts and your own personal bonus measurement.

Key responsibilities:

•                     Act as a first point of contact for prospect enquiries, and keep them informed of progress

•                     Drive new business sales process from initial prospecting through to contract negotiation and signature.

•                     Work with marketing to develop and apply effective lead generation activities.

•                     Identify and assist with development of new products and services for business customers

•                     Develop credible and strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.

•                     Devise acquisition strategies through effective and visible account planning

•                     Initiate discussions on sustainability and its impacts on the client and how we can help with the strategy to Net Zero, outlining the services that can support the client and their wider business

•                     Recognise the importance of energy and water retro-audits

•                     Establish and agree with customers appropriate service expectations, in line with SLAs

•                     Build a pipeline of opportunities and ensure sales activity records are maintained

•                     Compile and submit detailed sales reports on a weekly and monthly  basis

•                     Support other teams and departments through the provision of assistance and information.

•                     Resolve queries within your remit and expertise, while escalating or referring to a colleague where appropriate.

Skills and experience required:

•                     At least two years previous sales experience in an energy consultancy is essential

•                     In depth knowledge and experience in the business energy and sustainability industry

•                     Understand the impact of industry change on customers.

•                     Proven sales and negotiation skills with end users.

•                     Good understanding of flexible procurement and risk management strategies

•                     Appreciation of the compliance and sustainability challenges facing UK businesses

•                     Self-motivated, achievement driven and hungry for sales

•                     Ability to influence and have impact at a senior level.

•                     Strong customer facing skills, with confidence to present professionally both verbally and written.

•                     Numerate and accurate with ability to solve detailed problems and use own initiative

•                     Excellent IT skills and technical competent in use of MS packages, CRM and business intelligence software.

Package Available

This role is offered on a permanent contract, with a standard 6-month probation period to ensure both the business and candidate are happy in their new position. The role attracts a competitive basic salary and bonus structure, company car (TBC), phone, pension contribution, death in service benefit, employee assistance program and wellbeing initiatives. Based in modern offices off M6 motorway, hybrid working is available after 3 months.
