Shaun McClarnon- Managing Director

As Managing Director and founder of Brownlow Utilities, Shaun brings unrivalled experience, knowledge and skills to the business. He has been involved in the competitive energy market since its inception in 1990, first at Norweb where he managed an annual portfolio of £1.5 billion of energy sales.

In 2000, Shaun co-founded Utility Masters and helped grow the company to become one of the largest and most respected consultancies in the UK. After selling the business in 2010, Shaun has continued to work in the energy market, founding Brownlow Utilities.

Stephen Cross- Operations Director

Stephen has worked in the Energy and Water industry for more than 15 years. Beginning his career with United Utilities, Stephen moved t Community Energy Trading as a client Account Manager, before moving to Utility Masters to head up the Water Services department.

Now as Operations Director at Brownlow Utilities, Stephen provides advice and guidance to clients throughout the entire purchasing and contract management process.

Carl Barker- Senior Account Manager

Carl brings a unique combination of technical expertise and real-life application to Brownlow.  As a qualified Electro Mechanical Engineer and with a HND in Electrical Power, Carl has an incredible understanding of the technical dynamics within the energy industry.

Having spent over 20 years working in Manufacturing and Environmental industries across the globe, Carl joined Schneider Electric Energy & Sustainability Services in 2007 as Senior Client Manager responsible for clients with annual energy & utility spend in excess of £300M.

With a comprehensive understanding of risk management strategies together with a detailed knowledge of environmental and energy sector legislation, Carl provides exceptional technical and legislative knowledge to the team.

Mark Brierley- Senior Account Manager

Mark has over 40 years of experience in the energy supply industry, having started his career with Norweb in 1975. Qualified in Building Service Engineering and with a strong background in electricity and gas mains engineering works, Mark truly understands the technical aspects of electricity and gas supply contract arrangements.

Having worked in various client facing roles including National Account Manager and Client Manager, Mark further developed his portfolio skills by managing fixed and flex type supply contracts from very small commercial properties up to very large manufacturing facilities and multi site organisations.

Marks wealth of technical skills plus his deep understanding of the different contract arrangements makes him a font of knowledge to help our clients.

Bradley Hill- Carbon Compliance Manager

Brad specialises in carbon and compliance legislation that UK businesses are faced with today. With more than a decade of sector experience in the sector, Brad can assess your business, understand the legislation that applies and recommend the appropriate schemes for you. The outcome of Brad’s work not only mean you will be legally compliant but he often manages to realise a reduction in energy costs too.

Brad manages the carbon, emissions and efficiency schemes for our clients.

Amanda Byrne- Sales & Marketing Manager

Amanda has over 25 years of sales and marketing experience across a range of industry sectors with a first class degree background in engineering and economics.

Having worked for leading renewable and heating solution providers, Amanda’s knowledge of the energy market and appreciation of the dynamics that play within it help her to present Brownlow’s comprehensive range of services in a simple, value-driven way.

This is strengthened by her own energy and passion to communicate Brownlow’s transparent, honest and client-focused approach which underpins our claim ‘The utility specialist you can trust!’

Luke Connelly- Flexible Energy Purchasing Manager

Joining Brownlow shortly after graduating from Lancaster University, Luke brings with him a clear appreciation and understanding of facts and figures and how small details can make big difference.

At Brownlow, Luke is tasked with monitoring, analysing and assessing the various energy and carbon market conditions that affect UK businesses. Together with the Brownlow team, Luke will help to reduce costs, impact and risk.

David Lamb- Bill Audit Manager

Dave has a proven ability to deliver business results through challenging and problematic circumstances. Having over 30 years of senior level energy industry experience, Dave has worked with leading consultancies including Inenco and PCMG.

With a very strong operational background, he identifies, understands and resolves many of the contract, billing and regulatory issues that businesses face.

In auditing clients’ invoices, Dave demonstrates an appreciation of the numerous, non-commodity elements of an energy bill , and applies sophisticated analytical techniques and supplier negotiation to ensure a smooth and complete delivery of a project.  He has identified almost £1M in recoveries/savings in one year on historical overcharging.

Rob Young - Account Manager

Rob has a wide understanding of the utilities industry, having been involved in both supplier and consultancy businesses since 2002. Rob’s experience has been gained largely in the corporate sector covering fixed, flexible and international procurement.

More recently Rob has held senior operational management positions, supporting his teams growth and delivery of a successful client experience.

Rob firmly believes an energy consultant is an extension of a client’s business, that the procurement process extends through the life cycle of an arranged supply agreement and success is measured upon the retention of a client.

Olivia Mullins- Account Manager


Olivia has a first class, degree level understanding of the sales, marketing and communication elements required in a business. This is reinforced by a professional career in developing sales channels and new business across several companies, including a recently launches renewable energy provider.

Olivia manages key accounts within the Brownlow portfolio ensuring that energy contracts are continually reviewed, renewed and managed. Whilst servicing the account and responding to any client request, Olivia strives to improve the client’s current and longer term position and make a noticeable difference.

Lewis Sumner- Energy Risk Manager

Lewis joined Brownlow Utilities having previously embarked on an accounting apprenticeship. Young, driven and with a fine eye to detail Lewis embraced his role as energy analyst, helping to provide our clients with valuable insight into their energy consumption.

Using this experience, Lewis now supports the flexible purchasing side of the business, refining processes to bring clients invaluable reporting and insight into their energy portfolio on a daily basis.  Lewis is also a key member of Brownlow’s metering service, helping customers recognise savings with their Meter Operator and Data Collection/Aggregator agreements.

Jack O'Reilly- Energy Risk Manager

As a graduate in Mathematics and Statistics from Lancaster University, Jack has held several financial and accounting roles for technology businesses and a local charity. Through this he brings a wealth of research, analytical and technical experience to the Brownlow procurement team.

Jack’s is tasked with developing Brownlow’s market monitoring systems with the aim of reducing risk and improved savings for all our customers. With a fantastic work ethic, a keen eye for detail and a process-driven approach, Jack will add huge value to both fixed and flexible procurement services that we offer to our clients.

Denise Roberts- Financial Controller

With an impressive history in office management, customer service and financial administration, Denise has a firm hold on business procedures, practices and governance. Denise puts all of this into practice at Brownlow being a focal point for all of the business’s financial activities including bookeeping, invoicing, commission management, debt collection and report management.

Natalie McVeigh- Energy Analyst

At interview, Natalie knew Brownlow was the place for her – a company with the right approach, processes and people.

Natalie focuses on tenders, closing down contracts, data profile reports and general procurement queries that a client may have. As an Energy Analyst, Natalie’s knowledge of the energy market and industry grows every day.

Natalie’s role is enriched by a schedule of training and development. She has almost completed the Business Administrator Level 3 Qualification and has recently attended a comprehensive Energy Market course in London.

Matthew Higson- Carbon Services Analyst

Matthew has always had an interest in energy and the environment. He joins us having successfully completed his A Levels and working evenings and weekends in a customer services role for a high street retailer.

As Carbon Services Analyst he is growing his knowledge of the various carbon legislation and schemes that businesses face and ensuring that Brownlow’s clients are both compliant and competitive. He is currently enrolled on the Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship programme with the aim of undertaking a Junior Energy Manager apprenticeship scheme within the next 18 months.
