Surface Water Audit Recovers £56k for Logistics Firm

Company Overview

Currie European Transport Ltd has been providing tailored transport and storage solutions since 1977, operating at the forefront of the logistics sector.

Headquartered in Scotland, with strategic locations across England, France and the Netherlands, and trusted partners in Germany and Italy, the company is well positioned to move goods efficiently throughout the UK and Europe.

By shaping a comprehensive range of services around each customer’s specific requirements, Currie European Transport Ltd delivers secure, reliable and flexible logistics solutions at scale.

Challenge

Currie European Transport Ltd raised concerns that their sites water charges, particularly surface water drainage costs, appeared disproportionately high.

Given the scale of their operational footprint, even minor billing inaccuracies could result in significant financial impact over time. The business wanted clarity on whether they were being charged correctly and whether any historic overpayments could be recovered.

There was also an opportunity to review wider utility infrastructure costs to ensure all charges accurately reflected operational requirements.

Solution

Brownlow Utilities carried out a detailed Historic Bill Audit, reviewing water invoices and site charging structures to assess the accuracy of surface water drainage costs.

To validate findings and confirm the site’s drainage arrangements, the Brownlow water team undertook a comprehensive Water Survey. This strengthened the case for correction and supported the recovery of historic overpayments.

In addition to water, Brownlow Utilities extended the review to electricity infrastructure, identifying opportunities to optimise agreed supply capacity and LLF-related charges.

By taking a whole-utilities approach, Brownlow ensured no potential savings were overlooked.

Benefit

£56,000 recovered in surface water refunds

Brownlow Utilities successfully secured £56,000 in historic refunds relating to incorrect surface water drainage charges, delivering immediate financial benefit.

£18,500 ongoing annual water savings

Billing structures were corrected, ensuring continued annual savings and long-term protection against overcharging.

£6,500 per annum electricity infrastructure savings

Through KVA and LLF reductions, additional forward savings were identified, improving cost efficiency without impacting operational performance.

Holistic utility strategy

Rather than focusing solely on water, Brownlow Utilities assessed the broader utility landscape. This comprehensive approach delivered additional savings and reinforced the value of reviewing utilities collectively using a dedicated specialist.

Confidence and transparency

Currie European Transport Ltd now has assurance that their utility costs accurately reflect their site requirements, reducing financial risk and strengthening budget certainty.

“Brownlow Utilities took a proactive approach in reviewing our utility costs, identifying issues we were not previously aware of. Their thorough audit and survey work delivered significant cost recovery and ongoing savings, while giving us confidence that our billing now accurately reflects our operations. The process was clear, professional, and delivered real value to our business.” – Denise Lindsay, Currie Solutions
