Regulations | CCA

Climate Change Agreements (CCA’s) are part of the UK government’s measures to tackle climate change. It is a voluntary scheme designed to encourage UK businesses to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. Businesses can receive a percentage discount against the Climate Change Levy (CCL), in return for meeting energy and carbon reduction targets.

Brownlow has extensive experience of securing CCA exemption for businesses across all eligible sectors – and we could help you save thousands of pounds on CCL charges while making real energy efficiency reductions and contributing to your journey towards net zero.

The Application window for any new CCA entrants closes on the 31st August 2026. This will then re-open on the 1st January 27.

Regulations | SECR

Since April 2019, the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) scheme has required all UK quoted & unquoted large LLP’s that meet at least 2 of the below criteria to report on their energy usage, carbon emissions and energy efficiency measures they have taken.

• More than 250 employees
• Annual turnover greater than £36m
• Annual balance sheet total greater than £18m

Brownlow Utilities can help you devise an appropriate energy efficiency strategy for your business, collecting all the data you need for SECR and developing reports for submission – ensuring your business is fully compliant as none compliance can result in fines.

Regulations | ESOS

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment and savings identification scheme, applicable to all undertakings with 250+ employees or has an annual turnover in excess of £44 million, and an annual balance sheet total in excess of £38 million.

Firms that don’t comply with ESOS will face hefty fines, enforced by the Environment Agency (EA). Brownlow Utilities has two Lead Assessors (certified engineers) that have helped many organisations be compliant with ESOS, identifying energy saving measures and producing more than £3 million worth of annual savings.

ESOS Phase 4 is now underway. Learn more and book a consultation to discuss your compliance requirements on our dedicated Phase 4 page.

Regulations | EII

Under a UK government scheme, energy intensive industries (EIIs) can claim exemptions on up to 100% of the indirect costs of funding the Contracts for Differences, Renewables Obligation and small-scale Feed In Tariff.

Brownlow Utilities can carry out a free initial assessment of your business to check whether you’re eligible for the scheme, as well as completing the application process for you.

Regulations | MIN-MET

Introduced by the government in 2014, the MIN-MET scheme exempts specific mineralogical and metallurgical processes from the Climate Change Levy (CCL).

Having a MIN-MET agreement, therefore, can help businesses to stay competitive with their EU/Global competition.

At Brownlow, we can help your business achieve up to 100% CCL exemption, with no energy or carbon reduction targets to meet and no fees to a sector association to obtain your savings.

Net Zero | Supply Chain Engagement

Did you know that up to 90% of your organisation’s environmental impact lies within its supply chain?

Perhaps you find it difficult to engage with your supply chain, or to ensure that it meets your sustainability targets. An inefficient supply chain can do real damage to your business’s reputation – but don’t worry, because Brownlow is here to help.

We can run the entire interaction to bring all suppliers within your supply chain to the same level of understanding. Once this has been achieved we can introduce ways in which they can look to meet targets and reduce energy usage across all scope emissions, helping your suppliers manage their impact.

This can deliver real cost savings, but more importantly allows your business to engage and help your suppliers with their sustainability obligations.

Monitoring & Targeting | Export Metering

If your business is looking to install solar panels on its premises and owns those panels itself, it’ll need an export meter to receive payment for any electricity that’s generated and sold to the National Grid.

In most instances, businesses will need to set up a Smart Energy Guarantee (SEG) export contract. Brownlow will handle this lengthy administrative process on your behalf at every step, from the initial application all the way through to liaising for the installation.

Monitoring & Targeting | Submetering

Submetering is an important pillar of businesses’ sustainability strategies. Detailed and accurate data on energy consumption enable organisations to make more efficient use of their energy resources, boosting energy efficiency and delivering potentially significant cost savings.

Brownlow provides a range of services in this area, including system scoping and consultation, design and specification, installation project management and full lifecycle support. This offers a range of benefits, among them lowering your carbon footprint, regulatory compliance and lower energy costs.

Submetering is set to play an increasingly important role in helping businesses meet their sustainability objectives. Book a call with Brownlow today to find out more.

Monitoring & Targeting | Tenant Billing

Increasingly, businesses and property owners are recognising the importance of installing submeters to capture tenant energy consumption data. This data is then used to generate bills automatically, allowing you to bill tenants accurately while helping them with ESG reporting.

Brownlow can install electricity, water and gas submeters (MID compliant) and either send you the half-hourly data or retain this data and use it to create tenant invoices on a weekly or monthly basis. You can access these invoices via our secure online portal, downloading them when required or having them automatically sent to your tenant.
