This competition has provided the opportunity for businesses to reduce costs by setting up MOP agreements outside of their standard energy contracts. 

What this means to you:

• A MOP contract is a legal requirement for all half hourly electricity supplied meters
• It covers the supply of the meter, ongoing maintenance and necessary telecommunications for sending your consumption data to your energy supplier
• Your energy supplier will automatically assign a rolling MOP contract to your energy contract using their own or a preferred meter operator
• The MOP cost is sometimes very difficult to see on bills and can be hidden within the energy rates
