A Graduate Scheme Designed for Growth

The Brownlow Academy is more than just a graduate scheme. It is a launchpad for talent and a route into real-world experience. Designed to give graduates a full view of the energy and sustainability sector, the Academy offers structured rotations through key areas of our business. This helps participants build both specialist skills and a broad commercial understanding.
At the end of the rotation period, each graduate moves into a permanent role that fits their strengths and interests. We are proud to say that every participant so far has secured a full-time position with us.
We recently spoke with some of our Academy graduates to hear about their experience – from applying, to rotating, to settling into their roles.
The Application Experience
We know that the interview process can be daunting, which is why we have designed ours to be personal, supportive and straightforward.
“It was good having a preliminary call before the interview to find out more about the company and ask questions,” said one applicant. “The two-step process worked really well, and I thought it was great to meet the Chairman during the interview. It made the business feel very open and approachable.”
Others appreciated the simplicity of the process and the focus on potential, not just experience.
“When applying to big company grad schemes, there were loads of tests and questions based on past experience. The Brownlow process was just sending a CV and cover letter, then going to an interview. I think that is the best way to do it, as it doesn’t rule out people who might not have lots of experience but have the personality to be great in the role.”
The Value of Rotations
A key part of the Academy is the chance to rotate through different departments – from energy trading and procurement, to sustainability and water services. This helps graduates build knowledge, gain confidence, and understand how everything fits together.
“I learned a lot about how the business works overall,” said one graduate. “Skills I picked up in one area were useful in another, and that made settling into my full-time role much easier. It was also good socially, getting to know people across the whole company.”
Another shared, “Coming in with no industry experience, the rotations really helped me understand the context behind the work. Now that I am in a permanent role, I understand what other teams need from me and why, and I know what to expect when I need something from them.”
“I’ve developed Excel skills, improved my communication with clients and suppliers, and learned how invoices are used across different teams,” said another. “I also got to meet everyone in the business, so I now know who to speak to when I need help or information.”
Would They Recommend It?
“Absolutely!”
All applicants said they would recommend the Brownlow Academy to other graduates and prospective employees. They highlighted the supportive culture, the practical learning, and the clear progression into full-time roles as key benefits.
Looking Ahead
The Brownlow Academy continues to grow and evolve, helping graduates build lasting careers in energy, sustainability, and business operations. Whether you are looking to explore the sector, gain valuable skills, or take the next step in your career, the Academy could be the right place for you.
